Tommy’s Review: 4 STARS
A few years ago, we started to notice some green algae on the north-facing side of our house. Interestingly, many houses around here seem to have the same problem. On the north-facing side.
I thought it might be because it got less sun, or the bushes around that side were more pollenamous.
Then it got worse. Spreading to almost the entire side of the house.
We got a professional pressure washing done. Which looked great. For about two years.
Then it seemed to come back even worse!
Black and Green were now on the front of the house. Our new deck around back had to be wiped down twice a year from all the green build up (on the deck and the white railings (all synthetic)). It was becoming a real pain in the ass.
Then I saw an advertisement of “no scrub” and “no pressure” house washing. I was intrigued. Looking into it, and I came across Wet & Forget.
Unlike most Home Depot or Loews products, this was bleach-free and non-acidic. Mix with water in a pump sprayer. Spray on to any surface that has green or black stains caused by moss, mold, mildew, and algae. No scrubbing, no rinsing, no pressure washing.
I sprayed the deck, all the windows (which also get tons of black goop inside the screens), all the siding and gutters, our patio brick, and concrete walkway.
Pros: compared to pressure washing, it is way more affordable. It’s very easy. It does work.
Cons: if sprayed on glass, leaves a cloudy film (goes away eventually), not terrible but not sparkling clear; unlike pressure washing, it takes some time.
I tried it for the first time in late February. It worked. It has been six months, and everything still looks good. Not bright and sparkly, but not green and gross – good enough.
I plan to use it twice this year. I will report back later this year.
