Four friends, eighteen holes, and a couple of wagers—it’s the perfect setup for a round of golf. But if you’re trying to keep the friendship intact, eliminate stress, and actually speed up play, the 2v2 format is your best friend. A team game takes the pressure off hitting every shot perfectly and replaces it with shared success.

Since we are all about simple hacks for a happier life, here are our favorite 2v2 formats, including unique games rarely seen outside of Korea, designed to keep the game fun and the relationships healthy.
🤝 Section 1: The Team-Building Formats (Fixed Pairings)
The simplest way to start your 2v2 round is to set the teams before the first tee. If you know everyone’s game, you can match the low handicaps with the high handicaps for a balanced round.
1. Sixes (The Rotational Mixer)
This is the ultimate camaraderie builder because you will play with and against every player by the end of the round. It’s three separate 6-hole matches rolled into one round:
| Match Segment | Holes | Teams |
| First Match | Holes 1-6 | Player A + B vs. Player C + D |
| Second Match | Holes 7-12 | Player A + C vs. Player B + D |
| Final Match | Holes 13-18 | Player A + D vs. Player B + C |
T-Nice Hack: Sixes works best with a simple Best Ball scoring format (see Section 3). The continual rotation keeps everyone focused and prevents any one rivalry from dominating the day!
🎲 Section 2: The Chaos Formats (Teams Change by the Hole)
If you want pure, randomized fun—and a bit of chaos—these Korean-style games change the team dynamic on every single tee box.
2. K-Vegas (“Amigo” / Longi & Shorty)
Don’t confuse this with the complex “Vegas” scoring format (Section 4). K-Vegas (often called Amigo in Korea) determines the teams by the drive on the current hole.
- Longi & Shorty: The player with the longest drive partners with the player who hit the shortest drive. The remaining two players form the other team.
- Left vs. Right: Alternatively, the two drives furthest left play against the two drives furthest right.
Why T-Nice loves it: This format is the great equalizer! It forces the biggest hitters to rely on the shortest hitters, and vice versa, leading to amazing teamwork and hilarious results.
3. Bobp-ki (The Draw)
Bobp-ki means “to draw” and relies purely on luck after the hole is completed. This format is great for players who prefer to focus on their own ball from tee to green, and then worry about the team score.
- All four players play the hole individually.
- After the hole, each player draws a stick, chip, or card to determine the 2v2 teams.
- The team with the best combined score wins the hole’s wager.
The Bobp-ki JOKER Twist
The classic Bobp-ki setup uses five sticks/chips (two pairs, one Joker).
- The player who draws the Joker automatically records a PAR score for the team.
- T-Nice Variation: You can set the Joker to be a BOGIE instead of PAR. To make it truly chaotic, determine whether the Joker score is optional or overrides the player’s actual score (a forced BOGIE can be a great penalty if the player actually scored PAR or better!).
Monetization Hack: Your Own Bobp-ki Set
Since authentic Bobp-ki sets are hard to find in the U.S., make your own! T-Nice uses simple items that fit the theme:
- The Container: A velvet drawstring bag is perfect for holding and drawing the poker chips.
- The Chips: Use five poker chips (2 Red, 2 Blue, 1 White/Joker).
💰 Section 3: Wager Formats (The Scoring)
Once you’ve determined your team and the basic scoring format (Best Ball, Shamble, etc.), you need to decide how the wager is calculated.
| Scoring Format | Description | T-Nice Recommendation |
| Best Ball (Best Score) | Each player plays their own ball. The best individual score on the team becomes the team score for the hole. (Recommended for all skill levels.) | |
| Shamble | All players hit off the tee. The team selects the best tee shot. From that spot forward, each player plays their own ball until completion, using the Best Ball score. (Great compromise for poor drivers.) | |
| Scramble | Team selects the best shot after every single shot until the ball is holed out. (Fastest format, used mostly for tournaments.) |
The High-Risk Wager: Vegas
This scoring format has the highest potential for big swings (hence the name!) and is used with Best Ball scoring.
- Each player plays their own ball.
- The team’s scores are placed next to each other, not added. The lower score always goes first.
- Example A (Team A wins): Team A scores Bogie (5) and Double Bogie (6). Team B scores Par (4) and Bogie (5).
- Team A Score: 56
- Team B Score: 45
- Team B pays Team A: 56 – 45 = 11 units
Note on High-Low: Hi-Low is a variation where the team must win BOTH the best-score battle and the worst-score battle against the opposing team. This is usually only played with very skilled or evenly matched groups.
