Moving away from the precipice of death took over 50 weeks. Getting my blood pressure, glucose levels, BMI, and liver enzymes back to “normal” took over two years.
One day at a time, step by step, the process was empowering and tracking my progress was a huge help – even fun.

Blood Pressure
We tried a few off-brand blood pressure monitors, but found the readings to be inconsistent especially when the batteries got low.
Checking blood pressure at different times of the day, after certain activities, and other stressors can give some good insight into an important health factor.
I use an OMRON model that isn’t offered for sale any more. It’s not “smart” so it can’t update my health tracking apps automatically, but entering the data manually isn’t a big deal.
Glucose
OneTouch Verio blood sugar test kit is available for Amazon, but check with your insurance which may cover it.
Scale
For around $20 we got a “Smart Scale” from Amazon that connects to my phone via Bluetooth. We got the RENPHO SmartScale that records, tracks, and analyzes: body weight, BMI, bone, muscle, water, visceral fat, etc. Not sure how accurate those readings are, but tracking what happens over time really helped me.
In addition to using the RENPHO app, the data collected from the SmartScale is shared with health tracking apps on my phone (Google Fit and Samsung Health)
Sleep Monitor
I have a Google Nest Hub 2nd Gen Smart Display next to my bed. It tracks my breathing, snoring, and sleep patterns. This data syncs with my SmartPhone Apps (Google Fit and Samsung Health).

Smart Watch
My Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 tracks my steps, exercise, pulse, blood oxygen, sleep, and other health data.
This SmartWatch can also take calls, control videos and music, and for me a big plus is the golf GPS capability. The Smart Caddie app (need to pay) that allows me to track my health, exercise, AND ditch my old Garmin golf watch.
Smart Phone Apps
I don’t really use Google Fit, but have it. It seems to sync quietly in the background and doesn’t cause any trouble.
Samsung Health is pretty good. It takes in data from various devices and keeps track of my progress towards the goals I set. There are also videos on mediation, stretching, strength and aerobic exercises built into the app. Pretty good.
