Made before the “be good” or “we are good people” era of media with a signal, depending on your state of mind (or socio-economic status), you might nit pic how politically incorrect/offensive this film is. But beneath the crass jokes, are some thoughtful and thought-provoking themes.

Very “typical” tried-and-true themes from other Korean movies (e.g., the struggles of the underdog/Cinderella, the bullies reaping what they sowed, young love, parental love, exchanging bodies, etc.) force the viewer to put ourselves in the shoes of the person we assume we hate, or we assume we love, or admire, or despise.

Don’t read summaries about this movie. It moves quickly and the twists and turns make it fun.

The dialog and the acting is brilliantly hilarious at points. As themes of loyalty, family, and love develop, the camerawork and editing make sure the movie never gets too preachy – transitioning quickly from sadness to laughter, from tenderness to absurdity. I think there is a Korean saying that if you cry after laughing and laugh after crying too often, you will grow hair on your butt….But don’t quote me on that.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Not sure if all the humor translates properly for non-Korean speakers, but enough makes it through to make it close to a real gem! IMHO of course!
